Meet Shane
I'm Shane, the creator of Lantern Tools. Based in New Zealand, I built this site because most personal finance calculators are either too basic, buried inside apps that want your email address, or built for the US market only.
I have a background in personal finance and have spent years helping people in my circle understand the real impact of compound interest, the cost of carrying debt, and how small regular contributions add up over time. Lantern Tools is my way of making those same calculations freely available to anyone.
Every calculator on this site has been built and tested by me personally. If you spot an error or want to suggest a new tool, use the contact page — I read every message.
Our mission
Most people understand that saving early is important — but very few have ever actually run the numbers. Lantern Tools exists to make that easy. Our calculators show you exactly how compound interest works, what your savings will look like in 10 or 20 years, and whether paying off debt or investing makes more sense for your situation.
Everything is free, no signup required, and all calculations happen in your browser — we never see your numbers.
How our calculators work
All calculations use standard financial formulas — compound interest, present value, future value, and amortisation. Results are estimates intended to help you plan and compare scenarios. They should not replace advice from a licensed financial adviser.
